Over the Hedge was said to have a sequel according to Jeffry Katzenberg, the founder of Dreamworks in May 2007, but they didn't want to risk to do that and fear of losing money until Dreamworks is bought by a larger company, they would get eventually purchased by NBCUniversal in 2016.

Another fact: The producers of Shrek the Third was almost sued because of a joke about horse hoof beat sound effects made by a coconut and the lawsuit was made by Eric Idle (who was starred in Mony Python and the Holy Grail and coinidentially in Shrek the Third) for unauthorized use of that gag
